FAQS AND TIPS

Is there a minimum fundraising requirement?
No. Please feel free to set a fundraising goal you feel you are able to achieve. All gifts – big or small – can help make an impact! You may be surprised at just how much you can accomplish when asking for support from family and friends. We are grateful for your efforts to help Rutgers Cancer Institute advance our mission.

Where will the funds be designated?
It’s up to you! When establishing your personal fundraising page, you will select from a list of allocations and choose the one that is most meaningful to you, whether it be to support research for a specific cancer or patient programs. If you need assistance determining which one to choose, we are happy to help.

Can my donor(s) mail a check?
Yes. While we strongly encourage credit card donations be made directly through your page to ensure that the gift is allocated properly, we understand that sometimes a donor prefers to send a check. In this case, please ask the donor to include a note on the memo line of the check with your first and last name so that the gift can be linked to your fundraising campaign. Checks should be made payable to RUF-CINJ and mailed to:

          Rutgers University Foundation
          Attn: CINJ Development Office
          335 George Street, Suite 4000
          Liberty Plaza
          New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Donations to Rutgers Cancer Institute are made through the Rutgers University Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Gifts made through the foundation are deductible for federal income, gift, and estate tax purposes.

Will I be notified when a gift is made to my page?
When setting up your fundraising page, you will have the option to be notified via email when a gift is made to your campaign.

Are there any restrictions on content?
Yes. Please be sure your page does not contain language and/or images that may be considered offensive, discriminatory, foul, violent, sexual, or encourage harmful behavior. We monitor personal campaign pages regularly. Failure to comply with these restrictions is grounds for immediate removal of your page.

How do I get started?
Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Create your page and make it unique to you. Share your personal story. Describe your connection to Rutgers Cancer Institute. Explain why this effort is important to you.
  2. Once your fundraising page is created, be the first to make a personal donation. When you ask others to do the same, they’ll see that you’ve made a gift, too, and are dedicated to the cause.
  3. Email your contacts, starting with family and close friends, and ask them to support your efforts with a donation. Any amount will help you to reach your goal.
  4. Promote your fundraising page through social media by sharing your link. Ask others to contribute and/or share your link with their network.
  5. Thank your donors. Be creative. For those that donate to your page, tag them on social media and thank them for their support. It may encourage others to give, too. If you’d like, send a handwritten note to those who might appreciate it or personally call to thank them. Whatever the donation may be, your donors will appreciate the effort you put in to acknowledging their support.

*Pro tip: Use a free online QR code generator to create a QR code for your link, making it easy for your community to scan the code and donate directly to your page!
